DOYLE BACK IN OLD ROUTINE

- TOM FARMERY

BACk at SWINDON and back scoring, Eoin Doyle is a very happy man. Doyle was recalled from his loan spell at the start of the year by Bradford after scoring 23 goals for Swindon. But having made it clear he didn’t want to go back to Valley Parade, Doyle returned disgruntled and failed to score in the four games he played. The striker went to Bradford manager Gary Bowyer and was granted his wish to join Swindon permanently on Thursday. On Saturday he scored Swindon’s first goal in a 2-1 win over EXETER. ‘My heart wasn’t in it [at Bradford] — the first thing I’d check when I got back in the changing room would be the Swindon result,’ Doyle said. ‘I was in the manager’s office most days asking to leave.’ The win kept Swindon four points ahead of CREWE — who beat

WALSALL 2-1 — at the top and Doyle added: ‘Playing up front in a team like Swindon is heaven.’

PLYMOUTH kept up the chase on the front runners with Tyreeq Bakinson’s fifth-miute strike earning a 1-0 win against NEWPORT.

COLCHESTER’S 16-game unbeaten run, which stretched back to October, ended with a 2-1 defeat at

CAMBRIDGE, who are without a manager following Colin Calderwood’s sacking on Wednesday.

STEVENAGE remain rooted to the bottom and four points from safety after they were beaten 3-0 by

LEYTON ORIENT. It was their third defeat in a row and manager Graham Westley said: ‘It’s an embarrassing feeling to be in your home ground and have fans walking out with 20 minutes to go.’
