Brexit Day yet another example of Project Fear?

mourn Brexit. All that said, I had mixed feelings in Parliament Square. Most people were civilised, but a lot weren’t. Without any question of gloating, I celebrated our departure from the EU as I’d wanted. But I was reminded of Terence Rattigan’s line in Separate Tables: ‘The trouble with aligning yourself to a cause is that you so often have to associate with such disagreeable people.’

EDWARD THOMAS, Eastbourne, E. Sussex. I ATTENDED the joyous Brexit celebrations in Parliament Square and agree that the BBC coverage showed it was still engaging in its remorseless anti-Brexit bias. It is subtle in its selection of negative photos, such as that of a man climbing on the statue of Churchill with the flag of St George, to fit the narrative that Brexiteers are old, of lower intelligence and represent the yob element in society.

ED COWLEY, Camberley, Surrey. THE Remainer media managed to cast its shadow over the Brexit Day coverage. Switching between Sky, BBC and ITV, the message was the same: it was inappropriate to gloat, to be triumphalist and that the 17.4 million should be mindful of the feelings of those who lost. Never have so many been made to feel embarrassed at attempting to celebrate the end of 3½ years of stress, uncertainty and dirty tricks. All the TV channels seemed determined to only show fragments of the celebrations in Parliament Square. Why cover a rendition of God Save the Queen when Gina Miller had been wheeled into the studio to expound more wisdom on the future doom and stupidity of the British people? Coverage was given to the bars in Brussels and the wakes in Scotland as even the promised light and laser show at Number 10 appeared fleetingly and pathetic. Why show the entire projected Big Ben and the 11 bongs when an interview with Menzies Campbell makes far better use of air time?

Name and address supplied. HOW churlish of the BBC not to show Boris’s address to the country on the day we left the EU. I expect it has lost another few thousand viewers.

VIVIEN PARKER, Hungerford, Berks. IN A democracy, why didn’t ITV broadcast the Prime Minister’s speech on the most momentous days in our history? Disgraceful!

CHRIS STANSFIELD, Mansfield, Notts.
