125,000 reasons to join our litter force!
WHAT a sensational start! Less than two weeks since we launched the Great British Spring Clean 2020, more than 125,000 of you have volunteered your time and muscle to help turn back the pernicious tide of litter that pollutes our living space and threatens our health.
Even by the sky-high standards we have come to expect of Mail readers it’s a truly remarkable response. It shows how this year’s campaign, in tandem with Keep Britain Tidy, has caught your imagination.
In 2018, 370,000 signed up. Last year it was nearly 600,000. At this rate, 2020 will break all previous records.
The co-ordinated nationwide litter-picking event runs from March 20 to April 13.
Over a similar period last year our volunteer army managed to shift a stunning 4,300 tons of rubbish from our cities, towns, countryside and coastline.
By removing this ugly detritus of 21st century living, you made Britain a more pleasant and healthier place to live.
This year we hope to do even better. But that can only be achieved if you continue to take up the challenge.
You can either join organised events, create a group of your own, or act as an individual to help clean up the environment around you.
Launched by the Prime Minister in Downing Street, this campaign is backed by prominent figures as wide-ranging as the Archbishop of Canterbury and Lord Sugar, and organisations as diverse as the Women’s Institute and big High Street banks.
