EMIRATES SALE

THERE is still time to grab a bargain in the Emirates 2020 sale, ending on Wednesday. Deals include Vietnam and Colombo from £499 return, flying via Dubai from Gatwick or Stansted. Departures must be on a Monday to Thursday for selected dates until September 30 (emirates.com).

GOURMET ESCAPE

BRITISH Airways will start twice-weekly flights from London City to San Sebastian, Spain, with its 11 Michelinstarred restaurants, on July 10. The service continues until September 4 (ba.com, san sebastianturismoa.eus).

NEW ALLIANCE

VIRGIN Atlantic, Delta, KLM and Air France have formed a new partnership to offer a greater choice of routes and connections. Passengers can now earn Air Miles, and access airport lounges ( virgin atlantic. com, delta. com, airfrance.co.uk, klm.com).

PRIVATE TERMINAL

MANCHESTER Airport has opened a private facility, PremiAir, allowing passengers to bypass its main terminals. From £ 50 if you have hand-baggage only, or £100 brings access to a dedicated lounge with luggage handling and a separate security channel (premiair. manchesterairport.co.uk).

THEATRE TRIBUTE

IN THE days following 9/11, more than 6,000 airline passengers were stranded in Gander, a small town in Newfoundland, Canada. This inspired the musical Come From Away, that will celebrate a year-long run at London’s Phoenix Theatre on February 27. Tickets are available until May 23 (come fromawaylondon.co.uk).

TURKEY FLIGHTS

ANADOLUJET, a low- cost subsidiary of Turkish Airlines, will begin flying between Stansted and Istanbul on March 29. Flights will land at Sabiha Gokcen Airport, Istanbul, where boutique hotel Sumahan on the Water sits beside the Bosphorus Bridge. Doubles from £162, room only ( anadolujet.com, sumahan.com).

FLYING WHALE

IF YOU spot a huge aircraft flying around Europe that looks like a big smiling whale, it’s the BelugaXL cargo plane launched by Airbus. This ‘super transporter’ — 183ft long — is as high as a threestorey building ( airbus.com).
