HOW’S THEIR FORM?

-

A SLOW start after their winter break cost them top spot in Bundesliga but the 3-0 weekend win over Werder Bremen means they are still only a point behind leaders Bayern Munich. They have been beaten just three times in the league this season but struggled in the Champions League, needing two late goals to draw with Benfica before letting a 2-0 lead slip in Lyon.

MANAGER JULIAN NAGELSMANN

THE 32-year-old has been linked with Spurs and Arsenal this season, his first as Leipzig boss. He learned the ropes on Augsburg’s staff under Thomas Tuchel. Nicknamed ‘Mini Mourinho’ as Hoffenheim assistant, he got the top job there in 2015. He then led Hoffenheim from second-bottom to the Champions League in the space of 18 months.

STAR MAN TIMO WERNER

THEIR prolific forward has 25 goals in 31 games this season and sits behind only Robert Lewandowski in the Bundesliga scoring charts. Liverpool have been linked with a summer move for the 23-year-old, who won Bundesliga player of the month for November and December but is goalless in five games heading into this tie. Werner has never gone six matches in a row without scoring for Leipzig.

REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

7 SPURS are seven unbeaten in all competitions for the first time since December 2018 under Mauricio Pochettino. They have not had a longer run without defeat since 17 from December 2017 to March 2018.

8 THE CLUB have won eight of their 12 home games against German sides, including a 3-0 win over Dortmund at this stage last year.

11 LEIPZIG topped Group G with just 11 points, the joint-lowest tally of any group winner in the last eight seasons.

REASONS TO BE FEARFUL

6 YEARS since Jose Mourinho last won a Champions League knockout game, taking Chelsea to the 2014 semi-finals. He has qualified for the last 16 four times since, but been sacked after the group stage in two of those seasons.

14 GOALS conceded by Spurs in the group stage, the most of any team still in the competition — although half of those came in October’s 7-2 home thrashing by Bayern.
