Is it fair to increase the price of stamps?

-

HAS the Royal Mail never heard of the law of diminishing returns? Increasing the cost of first-class postage by 6p to 76p and secondclass stamp by 4p to 65p from next month will lead to fewer letters and cards being sent. The fact the Queen’s head appears on stamps should not determine if this company is allowed to keep its royal title if, as it appears, its only aim is to price its services out of the reach of the public.

YES, the Royal Mail is increasing its prices, but it is still amazing value. I will be able to send a first-class letter to Scotland for just 76p. Only by keeping this service in the monopoly of the Royal Mail can prices be kept at 76p and 65p. The Royal Mail has to increase prices because it needs to earn enough to invest in staff and sorting machinery. When I ship items all around the world, I can shop around for a courier service, but to post a letter to anywhere in the UK, you can’t get near Royal Mail’s prices.

WHY do we have a two-tier postal system? Just use second-class stamps, save 11p and your letter or card will still get to its destination — eventually.

tina ROwLEY, Saltburn, n. Yorks. INCREASING prices will mean fewer letters will be posted. It’s a downward spiral for Royal Mail. BRian BESt, High wycombe, Bucks.

ROYAL Mail has returned to making a profit, but still has the nerve to increase the price of stamps.
