The virtual motor show!

- BY RAY MASSEY MOTORING EDITOR

Scintillating British supercars led the field at this week’s geneva international Motor Show. Or they would have, had it not been cancelled due to coronavirus. instead some prestige car-makers took to social media to organise their own impromptu online launches . . .

Mclaren held a virtual ‘ motor show’ streamed from Woking, Surrey, to launch its 205 mph British-built 765lt.

the two-seater with a £280,000 price tag promises ‘almost telepathic driver engagement’ and a ‘ soundtrack’ from the four exhaust pipes.

Extensive use of carbon fibre has helped to reduce weight by 80kg.

First deliveries are in September. a limited run of just 765 cars will be built, powered by a potent 765 horse-power 4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine linked to a sevenspeed automatic sequential shift g gearbox ( (‘SSG’) ) that p propels p it from rest to 60mph in just 2.7 seconds.

■ BOND car favourite aston Martin launched its two-seater 186 mph V12 Speedster — with no roof or windscreen, aimed at producing a raw driving thrill. Priced at £765,000, just 88 cars will be built for delivery next year. it goes from rest to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds.

■ BENTLEY launched its most expensive car, the 200mph £1.8 million Mulliner Bacalar. despite the price, the Bentley has no roof, either, and only 12 will be built. With extensive personalisation, the final bill will soar swiftly through the £2 million barrier. all have been sold ahead of next year, bosses at the crewebased firm said. Powered by a six-litre W12 TSI petrol engine with 659 hp, it reaches 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

■ QUIRKY Malvern- based Morgan has put a two-litre twin- turbocharged 225bhp BMW four-cylinder engine into its Plus Four roadster which goes from rest to 62 mph in just 4.8 seconds.
