WHAT’S HOT WHAT’S NOT
HOT LEWIS HAMILTON
Some of his environmental messaging has drawn counter-claims of hypocrisy, but his comments on coronavirus were strong and indisputably on point. He took the lead on a contentious issue and sounded like the only leader in the F1 village of idiots.
TYRRELL HATTON
Another European winner on the PGA Tour and another slap in the face for the eminently slap-able Paul Azinger. Hatton (right) has always been good value for his battles with his temper, but it was never in doubt that a very fine player lurked beneath the rage.
SCOTT QUIGG
He lost a fight and quit his sport. But what a superb example of a boxer exceeding himself by winning a world title. Retiring at the right time has proven difficult for too many, but Quigg’s was a brave and correct call.
NOT EDDIE JONES
The England coach received the softest of slaps on the wrist for implying that referee Ben O’Keeffe was biased against his team in their Six Nations victory against Wales. He deserved more. Prop Joe Marler was given 10 weeks for pinching a d***; Jones made himself look like one.
JURGEN KLOPP
Great manager of a great team and a man of considerable intellect. But the Liverpool manager’s (right) apparent belief that the wider world and Diego Simeone should configure in his favour casts him in an odd light. And not for the first time this season. Winning is a brilliant look; feeling entitled to do so is less good.
PREMIER LEAGUE
No germ within the coronavirus saga has spread quite so fast or effectively as the phenomenon of the amateur virologist. And yet the crawling pace of the Premier League in response to the accelerating crisis could be accurately timed using a sun dial.
