THE TRICKS OF PERFECTLY ORGANISED CUPBOARDS

-

IT’S easy to forget about those cupboards that we use to house the things we really don’t need ( you know, like cake tins and the juicer we’ve used once). I was so shocked when I went through my cupboard of doom. I had no idea how much stuff I was storing, and none of it was anything I needed. Who needs old Tupperware with no lids or a cheese grater that doesn’t work properly? I ditched all the stuff I didn’t need, and it felt amazing. I hinched it by filling it back up with the stuff I did want to keep, and organising it so it looked lovely. TAKE everything out of the cupboards and push it all to one side of the worktop. CHECK the sell-by dates of everything and throw out anything that’s out of date. SPRAY a generous amount of disinfectant inside the cupboards, and wipe it around with the white side of a Minkeh and allow it to air-dry. This is so quick and easy to do with Minkeh.

Another reason why I’m in love with the little man so much. ANOTHER brilliant thing I’ve bought is an extendable shelf organiser from Lakeland (above), and it’s amazing. You stack your tinned food on each of the three shelves so you can see what you’ve got really quickly and easily. PUT the items that have the longer shelf life at the back, and the ones that need to be used sooner at the front. Always works for me! ALWAYS put your mugs and glasses away in the cupboards with their bottoms in the air, so dust doesn’t settle inside. Or, if you have them, hang them up by their mug hooks that we all purchased from eBay. They work a treat and they’re an amazing space-saver.

GIVE KNIVES AND FORKS A LITTLE CARE

I CLEAN out my cutlery drawer once a fortnight because one day it will look fine and the next I’ll be like: ‘What the hell is that in there?’ It seems to be a haven for crumbs. I’ll take all the cutlery out, whack it in the sink in some Fairy Liquid and warm water and, while they’re soaking, I’ll use my worktop vacuum cleaner to get all the bits out of the corners. Then I’ll disinfect it and put everything back in once it’s dry.
