HOW TO KNIT OUR COSY RED JUMPER

- by Jacinta Bowie

ThIS pattern is aimed at the intermediate knitter. The techniques cover lace and cable stitches and comprise a panel of more challenging techniques with some reverse stocking stitch to the sides.

The best wool to use would be an Aran weight with some wool content and a good yardage so the garment doesn’t become too heavy and is more fluid. For readers needing help completing the pattern, I’ve set up technical support at

SIZES

To fit: UK size 10-12 [14-16: 18-20: 22-24] 90-100 [101-111:112-117:127-132] cm Actual measurement: 137 [143:150:157] cm Full length: 70 [72:72:74] cm Underarm: 28 [30:30:30] cm

Figures in square brackets refer to larger sizes: where there is only one set of figures this applies to all sizes.

YOU WILL NEED

l Rico Essentials Soft Aran l 100% virgin wool, (approx 100 metres (109 yards) per 50g ball)

l 13 [14: 15: 16] x 50g balls of Shade Brick Red (007)

Available from Deramores, LoveCrafts and Wool Warehouse online. The yarn stated knits to standard Aran yarn tension so you can substitute another yarn with the same stitch and row tension on 5mm needles.

Take note of the yardage of the substitute yarn to make sure you have the right amount of yarn for your size. Ie 1300 (1400:1500:1600) metres.

So your sweater doesn’t become too heavy I suggest you use a yarn with a good yardage.

l One set of 5mm needles straight. (If you prefer to work with circulars an 80cm circular needle is also suitable) l Spare needle l Cable needle l Stitch markers l Darning needle Note: Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.

TENSION

18 sts and 24 rows = 10 cm measured over rev st st on 5mm needles

Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.
