KATE’S GREAT 8!
Duchess champions images that portray life under lockdown
HER love of photography has helped her develop a keen sense of the emotion an image can portray.
Now the Duchess of Cambridge has highlighted eight of her favourite portraits of lockdown, urging the nation to create a lasting record of how we have pulled together.
Kate is backing Hold Still 2020, a project launched in early May by the National Portrait Gallery, of which she is patron, to create a ‘community collection’ of photographs capturing the reality of life with coronavirus.
With a week to go before it closes, she recorded a video message at Anmer Hall, her Norfolk home, to encourage everyone to enter.
Dressed in blue and standing by a window at her home, Kate said: ‘There have been so many amazing entries. From families showing how they are adapting to life during lockdown, through to some of the most amazing NHS and social care staff who are putting their lives on the line to save the lives of others.
‘So please take a moment to capture what life is like for you, because together I hope that we can build a lasting illustration of just how our country pulled together during the pandemic.’
The initiative is free to enter and open to all ages and abilities. Portraits will be assessed on the emotion and experience they convey, rather than photographic skill. There are three categories: Helpers And Heroes, Your New Normal and Acts Of Kindness.
Images can be submitted at www.npg.org.uk/hold-still until June 18. About 100 of Kate’s favourites will appear in a digital exhibition.
