What’s Kylie really like in the bedroom?

No, not like that! As the trend for celebrity bedding booms, CLAUDIA CONNELL puts the best to the test...

-

ONCE upon a time, having a signature fragrance was a must for any celebrity trying to thrust their wares upon the public.

today, things have become far more intimate, with stars expecting us to climb into bed with them.

It seems that everyone from actresses and models, to pop singers and tV presenters, are coming out with their own range of bed linen.

the reason why the rich and famous are suddenly so keen to kit out your airing cupboard? It’s a booming business. the global bed linen market is worth £48 billion and sales are expected to increase.

Greater awareness of the importance of a good’s night sleep means that consumers are spending money on turning their bedrooms into luxurious sanctuaries.

here, for those tempted to slip between some celebrity endorsed sheets, is a guide to the ranges on offer from some well-known faces…

RITA ORA

aCtRESS and singer Rita, 29, has already amassed a £10 million fortune thanks to record sales and endorsements including those with adidas and Calvin Klein.

Launched in February, her bed linen was an instant sell out. ‘Interiors are a passion of mine,’ said Rita.

WORTH WAKING UP TO? I’m rather shocked to see quite how dainty my Latimer linen from her range is (a double duvet is £95, and a pair of pillowcases cost £ 28, from next.co.uk).

Featuring a floral pattern on a teal background and made from 100 per cent cotton sateen, the duvet cover feels soft but also has that lovely starched quality. It has a 220-thread count (referring to the total number of yarns per square inch of fabric, with 500 being the super-luxury end and 150-200 being average) and the button fasteners feel sturdy.

It’s well made and tasteful (apart from the autographed postcard of Rita inside). 4/5

HOLLY WILLOUGHBY

‘hOMELY, elegant and beautiful’ are the words this Morning presenter holly, 39, uses to describe the bedding range she has designed for Dunelm, a collaboration that began three years ago.

the linen is all 100 per cent cotton with a 180-thread count and comes in five designs on a pastel and floral theme.

WORTH WAKING UP TO? the Etta bed linen (currently 20 per cent off at £40 for a double duvet cover and two pillowcase set, dunelm.com) has a china blue floral print on a white background.

It looks fresh and summery but, the fabric feels cheap and, after just one night, is horribly creased. the button fasteners are also flimsy. 2/5

KYLIE MINOGUE

thE australian singer, 52, launched Kylie at home in 2008 and the collection now features 11 designs of bedding sets that are heavy on shimmering metallics.

Kylie’s bedware range is sold at Next, house of Fraser as well as very.co.uk.

WORTH WAKING UP TO? I test the angelina range in a truffle colour (a double duvet cover is on sale at

very.co.uk for half-price at £44.50 and a pair of pillowcases are £19).

It’s dazzling. the duvet cover is 100 per cent polyester in shiny satin on one side and plain in 100 per cent cotton percale on the reverse.

hundreds of sequins form a paisley pattern on the front. It feels out of place at my three-bedroom terrace.

With a 200-thread count, the linen feels well-made, but flimsy buttons have been used and I’d be worried about so many sequins in a washing machine. 2/5 EMMA WILLIS

BESt known for presenting Big Brother and the Voice, Emma Willis, 44, got into the bedding market two years ago.

She has given her name to a line that’s exclusive to Dunelm and, has shunned sequins, sparkles and ‘country cottage’ for something altogether more modern and chic.

WORTH WAKING UP TO? the Klara design’s simple geometric pattern would appeal to those who love Scandi style.

I put it on my bed and thought it looked far more expensive than it is (currently half price, a double duvet cover and two pillowcase set are £30, dunelm.com).

Even though the bedding is a mix of 78 per cent cotton and 22 per cent polyester, it feels like quality linen. the buttons for fastening are sturdy and despite a 180-thread count it feels high-end. 5/5

LOUISE REDKNAPP

aNY of the 700,000 people who follow singer and tV presenter Louise Redknapp, 45, on Instagram will know she lives in a modern mansion in Surrey that features Damien hirst artwork. But does the former Strictly Come

Dancing contestant sleep in bargain bed linen?

Sold exclusively by asda, Love Louise is a range of homeware that she created in association with Julie Varma, senior design director at George home for asda.

‘I was impressed by the mix of colours, the quality and the general design,’ said Louise, who unveiled the collection in January. WORTH WAKING UP TO? My purple Scandi Foliage duvet and pillowcase set features a busy leaf design. It’s a polycotton mix with 52 per cent polyester and 48 per cent cotton, yet I am convinced it’s 100 per cent cotton until I examine the label.

the fabric is non-iron and the duvet cover has sturdy poppers, which I prefer to buttons that always seem to come loose.

My double set (duvet cover and two pillowcases, asda.com) is just £12, making it amazing value. Great for a guest bedroom. 3/5

TESS DALY

thERE’S nothing cheap and cheerful about Strictly host tess’s bedding range, sold exclusively at Next. Launched in January, the look is boutique hotel. tess, 51, said she was ‘living the dream’ when she worked on the range.

WORTH WAKING UP TO? My Lux double duvet cover and two pillowcases (£110, next.co.uk) does look exactly like something you’d expect to find on a posh hotel bed.

In a taupe shade, the duvet cover has a metallic brocade style pattern. the duvet and pillowcases are 100 per cent polyester on the face and 100 per cent cotton on the back.

the heavyweight duvet cover would make it too hot for summer. the pillowcases would have to be purely for decoration, as they’re too scratchy to sleep on. 4/5
