Should there be more black football managers?

-

I COULD not agree more with England star Raheem Sterling regarding discrimination against black football managers and coaches (Sportsmail). Sol Campbell, who was one of the best England centre-halves, was rewarded for his remarkable achievement at Macclesfield with the impossible task of saving lowly Southend. Meanwhile, Frank Lampard was parachuted into Derby and a year later went to Chelsea, despite having little managerial experience. As a Newcastle fan, I have never seen a manager who honours his sport more by dint of his dignity and decency than Chris Hughton. But he was unceremoniously sacked despite having achieved promotion in style and maintaining the team’s position in the Premier League. The same thing happened at Brighton, who sacked him after he had kept them in the Premier League for two seasons and booked them an FA Cup semi-final place. To borrow my team’s colours, this is a black-and-white issue and Raheem Sterling is right to raise it.

It Should be professionalism and quality that qualify people to be appointed to a job. Political correctness is holding us back, not advancing us.

RAHEEM STERLING has made it as a player because he is good at what he does, not because of the colour of his skin. Surely the same can be said for managers.

DON’T forget how successful John Barnes was at Celtic. Raheem sterling should remember that football is a business, not a social service.
