Unlock pensions

-

do ThoSe who argue against the suspension of the pension triple lock (Letters) live in the real world?

Someone has got to pay for the huge cost of the Covid-19 pandemic and if the triple lock has to be suspended then I think it’s a small price to pay to stop our economy going into a tailspin.

Most pensioners have ridden the crisis without much difference in

their monthly income unlike working families.

If the economy collapses, where will the triple lock be then? I’m a pensioner trying to ride out this storm, but in a fair-minded way.

DAVID GIBSON, Wakefield, W. Yorks. I AM not surprised pensioners are seen as an easy target for the Government when it’s looking to save money.

The potential dropping of the triple lock, the lowest annuity rates in history and savings returns at an all-time low due to the Government printing presses working overtime have resulted in the collapse of one of the finest pension systems in the world.

Final salary pension schemes were once able to provide an excellent addition to the state pension, but having to rely on market returns by way of money purchase pensions is completely uncertain — it’s just like buying Lottery tickets! The abolition of free TV licences is only the start of what seems to be an attack on senior citizens. ANDREW PETTIGREW,

Haslingden, Lancs. IF IT is seen fit to suspend the triple lock on pensions, why can’t we do the same to the foreign aid budget — at least until all the Covid-19 costs have been cleared?

J. M. HuRRELL, Ashford, Kent.
