Let pubs decide
DOES the Government, scientists and health officials seriously believe people will again visit pubs, restaurants and cafes in sufficient numbers to make these businesses economically viable if they have to provide their name and address as a condition of being served or use phone apps to order and pay?
I’m not prepared to go through this palaver and what is stopping people from giving false details?
Why are absurd restrictions being introduced when we have a clear policy on what people should do if they have symptoms of Covid-19 as part of the Government’s test, trace and isolate strategy?
The inevitable outcome of this ill-thought out policy will be another U- turn and I predict these impractical rules will be jettisoned.
So scrap these restrictions and allow pubs, restaurants and cafes to set up safety policies appropriate to their needs. This is the sensible and pragmatic way forward. PETER HENRICK,
Birmingham. SOCIAL distancing is to be reduced to one metre and pubs are to be allowed to open on July 4.
Pubs are social places so I can’t see customers observing this rule.
As the cases of coronavirus are decreasing rapidly, would it have been better to leave things as they are until the end of July when there would be less chance of a new spike.
Then all businesses, including pubs, could reopen with no restrictions and we would really be back to normal.
