- By Paul Revoir Media Editor

FOrmer football star matt Le Tissier has told his Tv bosses that wearing a Black Lives matter badge on air risked promoting ‘far-Left’ ideologies.

The 51-year- old said he could not support parts of the platform of the campaign group and disagreed with its anti-capitalist aims and its desire to ‘defund the police’.

But the sky sports pundit, who won eight england caps, said he would carry on wearing the badge because he agreed with the cause.

Premier League players are keen to distance themselves from the official UK arm of the Black Lives matter group because of concerns about its political aims and beliefs, sportsmail reveals today. senior players have discussed the situation and a public statement on the subject could be made by team captains.

When the Premier League restarted this month all players had ‘Black Lives matter’ on their shirts instead of their names in the opening round of games and they have continued to take the knee before kick-off.

Le Tissier first aired his views on Twitter by requesting that supporters of the far-right and far-Left should unfollow him. But when the former southampton forward was asked why he wore a badge ‘promoting a far-Left ideology’, he replied: ‘That’s a good point and one which i’ve made to my boss already.’

speaking at his home yesterday he said: ‘i just don’t agree with some of the points of that movement. specifically the defunding of the police and the anti-capitalist points are things i do not agree with.’
