He may be on a musical hiatus but ed Sheeran hasn’t paused his plans to expand his £ 3.7million estate in Suffolk.

the singer, 29, wants to buy three properties that sit on the edge of his estate because their gardens encroach on his land.

Sheeran – who is worth £200million – owns five properties on his estate, dubbed Sheeranville.

He bought his first home on the site in 2012 for almost £900,000.

the properties in question are believed to be two bungalows and a larger home which sit between Sheeran’s house and his ‘wildlife pond’ – which was the subject of complaints last year. ‘the homes are in the middle of ed’s land on the main road, so it will just neaten everything up if he can get his hands on all three over the coming years,’ a source told the Sun.

‘the gardens of the homes jut into the middle of fields owned by ed and mean he must take the long way round if he visits a lake at the far edge of his property.’

Sheeran’s Suffolk residence, where he lives with his wife Cherry Seaborn, includes a football pitch, an orchard, an outdoor kitchen, entertainment area and a pub.

In April he lost a planning battle against his neighbour tony robinson who wanted to extend his garden by incorporating part of a paddock which runs alongside Sheeran’s estate.

Speaking to the Mail at the time, Mr robinson said: ‘I am pleased that the council have approved our proposal, which means I will be able to sit at the bottom of my extended garden and get a really good view of ed’s new chapel.’

Sheeran has been involved in several legal disputes over his rights to expand his land and make developments to the estate. Council officials previously challenged him over an outdoor sauna and a pub-style sign on a Grade II listed barn. He was told to apply for planning permission or remove them. Plans for a chapel were also refused before a revised scheme was approved last autumn.

Sheeran also owns 22 homes in London and overall his property empire is worth £57million.

the singer previously opened up about having nowhere to live from 2008 to 2010. In his book A Visual Journey, he said: ‘I knew where I could get a bed at a certain time of night and I knew who I could call to get a floor to sleep on. Being sociable helped. Drinking helped.

‘I spent a week catching up on sleep on Circle line trains. I’d go out and play a gig, wait until 5am when the Underground opened, sleep on the Circle line until 12, go to a session and then repeat.’
