Queen knights Tom in person
The Queen will knight Captain Sir Tom Moore in person at Windsor Castle tomorrow.
In her first faceto-face engagement since lockdown, the monarch, 94, will host the 100-yearold fundraising hero and his close family at Windsor Castle for a unique outdoor ceremony. The Second World War veteran, pictured, who raised almost £33million for charity by walking laps of his Bedfordshire garden, tweeted yesterday: ‘I could never have imagined this would happen to me.’
Royal investitures were put on hold during the pandemic but the Queen, who has been staying at Windsor, will make a special exception to honour Captain Sir Tom.
Buckingham Palace said they believe it is the first time this ‘unique’ format will have taken place. The investiture will take place within Windsor Castle with no viewing positions for the public and numbers will be kept to a minimum.
