Iconic props from big screen classics set to be sold for £5million
THEY are the stuff of movie legend – Tom Cruise’s Top Gun helmet, Darth Vader’s sinister costume and Rocky Balboa’s boxing gloves.
And now they are going on sale – but film fans will have to dig deep if they want to own some of these Hollywood treasures.
More than 850 lots are set to be sold at Prop Store’s Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction in Los Angeles next month. They are expected to fetch more than £4.8million in total.
The pilot helmet worn by Cruise in his role as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell in 1986 action movie Top Gun is estimated to sell for between £40,000 to £56,000.
For Star Wars fans there is a Darth Vader promotional costume from the 1977 original film – with a guide price of between £120,200 to £200,400.
Viewers who prefer modern movies may be attracted by items on offer from Quentin Tarantino’s Oscar- winning Once Upon A Time.... In Hollywood, including a yellow 1966 Cadillac DeVille which is estimated to fetch between £36,000 to £44,100.
Will Ferrell’s blue suit from 2004 comedy Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy is predicted to sell for between £2,400 to £4,000.
Also up for sale is Jennifer Lawrence’s costume from The Hunger Games, which has a guide price of £6,400 to £8,000.
Brandon Alinger of Prop Store said: ‘With more than 850 lots from all the classic fan favourite titles, this two-day auction will be an unforgettable experience.’
The live auction, with both online and in-person bids, will take place over two days from August 26.
