TRANSFER WINDOW EXTENDED BY FORTNIGHT FOR DOMESTIC DEALS

- MIKE KEEGAN

THE summer transfer window will open as soon as the current season ends.

The Premier League announced yesterday that the window will run from July 27 until October 5 — with an extra ‘domestic- only’ period from October 5-16.

This will allow Premier League clubs to trade with their EFL counterparts and will apply to loans and permanent moves.

Fears had been raised that opening the window as soon as the campaign ends could unsettle those with matches still to play.

While the Premier League is due to conclude a week on Sunday, the Championship play- offs start on the same day ahead of a Wembley final on August 4. The FA Cup final is scheduled for August 1, while both Manchester clubs and Wolves will be involved in European competition.

The EFL say any player bought while the season remains ongoing will be unable to play until the following campaign.

As reported by Sportsmail, some EFL sides wanted their window to remain open until January to give them more time to trade their way out of financial trouble.

Meanwhile, football’s rule-making body IFAB announced yesterday teams can continue to use up to five substitutes next season.
