CITY TO NET £15m FROM UNITED’S SANCHO DEAL

- By JACK GAUGHAN and CHRIS WHEELER

Manchester city will pocket in the region of £15million if Jadon sancho’s move to Manchester United goes through.

United are in the process of negotiating a financial package with Borussia Dortmund that could exceed £100m with additional clauses.

and city will make a significant amount on that transfer after installing a 15 per cent sell- on clause when sancho departed the etihad stadium three years ago. the clause pertains to profit made on the sale, one that saw sancho eventually move to Germany for around £8m.

the 20-year-old’s stock has risen dramatically since then. he is now considered one of the most talented wingers in europe and has earned 11 england caps under Gareth southgate. now he is set to return to england in what could be a British record transfer deal, although United remain locked in talks over the fee.the clubs were still far apart on valuation last night, according to United sources who believe Dortmund’s demands are unrealistic in the current economic climate.

transfer targets would be pursued if a compromise is not reached. It is also understood that United are yet to agree personal terms with the player and are refusing to break their wage structure for him.

Although City did not want to lose Sancho in 2017, the timing of his switch to Old Trafford will now act as something of a financial fillip given that they are spending an initial £20.9m on Ferran Torres from Valencia.

The 20-year-old completed his move to the Etihad last night with Pep Guardiola signalling City’s aggressive intentions in the transfer market.

Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake will follow for £41m to bolster their back line ahead of next season. Another winger, Jack Harrison, is again departing City on a season-long loan to newly promoted Leeds United after an impressive title-winning campaign with the Elland Road club.

Harrison scored six goals and contributed eight assists as Leeds won the Championship and Marcelo Bielsa wanted to land the 23-year- old for their first year back in the Premier League.

Leeds have the option to sign Harrison permanently next summer, although he is expected to agree a contract extension at City before a third loan move to Leeds is completed.

City take a one-goal lead into their Champions League last-16 tie against Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium on Friday night and yesterday added teenage keeper Gavin Bazunu to their squad as cover.

Despite restrictions surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, Real will jet into the North West 24 hours before kick-off and train at the Etihad tomorrow evening.

The Spanish champions were tested on Monday and are expected to have the same checks tomorrow ahead of the second leg. Real, whose striker Mariano Diaz tested positive for the virus last week, are exempt from quarantine rules.

Sergio Ramos is suspended but will join the travelling party. The captain is allowed inside the changing room before kick- off, but not on the bench.

Ramos is likely to instead sit in City’s Tunnel Club hospitality area.
