BOURNEMOUTH BEEF UP SECURITY AFTER BILLING BREAK-IN

- By SAMI MOKBEL Chief Football Reporter

BOURNEMOUTH will bolster their player security after Phillip Billing’s house was burgled on Saturday night. As exclusively revealed by MailOnline yesterday, tens of thousands of pounds worth of jewellery and personal items were taken from the 24-year-old’s property during the break-in. Like hundreds of footballers, the Danish midfielder is on holiday after the Premier League season finished at the end of July. Billing is known to have used his social media accounts while he is away, raising concerns that his house was targeted by criminals as a result. A number of other Bournemouth players are abroad during the short close season and have posted similar things on social media, raising fears that more players will fall victim to crooks looking to take advantage of empty houses ahead of their return to pre-season. As a result, Bournemouth chiefs, following discussions with Dorset Police, have increased security measures around their squad members’ properties to ensure no one else is impacted by what they believe is a calculated move by burglars to target players who are on holiday. Bournemouth’s season came to a hugely disappointing end as they suffered relegation to the Championship on the final day of the campaign after a five-year stay in the top flight. Long-time manager Eddie Howe left the club by mutual consent at the start of August and Jason Tindall, who worked under the 42-year-old, was confirmed as the Cherries’ new boss on Saturday. Tindall (right) said: ‘Given the success of the club over the last 12 years, with Eddie in charge and me by his side, I’m not going to rip everything up and start again. ‘I would be a fool to do that. ‘But I’m my own person with my own ideas and I will be looking to implement them as soon as we get back on the training ground. ‘My aim is to get this club back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.’
