Why I no longer need a man in my life, by Melanie, 50
SHE’S had two marriages and a string of famous boyfriends. But Melanie Sykes is happy to be single at 50. The TV and radio presenter says she has no interest in settling down and doesn’t need a father for her children. Miss Sykes adds that it will take someone special for her to ‘succumb’ to love again as she is not interested in having to ‘negotiate’ with someone. She told The Frank Magazine: ‘It’s interesting, when you are single people assume it’s not by choice, but it is for me. I have no interest in just settling. Sometimes I travel alone, I dine alone, I go to the cinema alone, all by choice. I am extremely comfortable with and enjoy my own company.’ Miss Sykes has sons Roman, 18, and Valentino, 16, by her ex-husband Daniel Caltagirone. The pair split in 2009 after eight years of marriage. She married Jack Cockings in May 2013 at Sherborne Castle in Dorset but filed for divorce after less than one year. Miss Sykes said she has no o desire to give her ‘energy to someone - who is simply not worth it’.
‘I don’t need a father for my kids, I don’t need to be financially supported d and I’m not sure if I want too much domesticity with someone. I enjoy my life and I don’t want to negotiate what t I watch, when I go to bed, when I eat t and I don’t want to share my bed on n nights I don’t want to.’
Miss Sykes, who has been linked to o German golfer Martin Kaymer, 35, and d singer Olly Murs, 36, briefly dated d comedian Steve Coogan last year.
The Radio 2 presenter said: ‘Sadly in n all realms of life... most men are e pretty basic and disappointing.’
