Enfield leaves wife – so will it cost him Loadsamoney?
‘Most of my friends chose not to have children — probably after coming to my house’
Actress Sophie Winkleman is finding raising her two children with Lord Freddie Windsor a challenge
HARRY ENFIELD’S wife, Lucy, once hailed his ‘huge sex appeal’ but she’s now found that life with the celebrated comedian is no laughing matter.
I hear the couple’s marriage has hit the rocks after 23 years and Enfield, 59, has moved out of their elegant family home in Notting Hill, West London.
‘It’s very sad, but Harry is living elsewhere,’ a friend of the couple tells me. ‘He’s being comforted by a female friend. Lucy’s heartbroken.’
Talented Enfield, who created and performed such grotesques as Kevin the Teenager, Loadsamoney and The Slobs, has three children with Lucy, 57. She’s a children’s clothes designer, but the brand she co-founded, Wild & Gorgeous, filed for administration last year.
The firm received great free publicity when her dresses were worn by David Cameron’s daughters in their final appearance in Downing Street. The former prime minister and his wife, Samantha, are pals with Enfield and Lucy.
Before the comic met privately educated Lucy at a dinner party, he had a three-year relationship with TV and film producer Alison Allen, former wife of actor and comedian Keith Allen.
During that time he and Alison shared a flat in Primrose Hill, North London, and he played a part in bringing up the three Allen children, Sarah, Game Of Thrones star Alfie, and Lily, the now-famous pop singer. He called them his ‘common-law stepchildren’.
Enfield, who plays Prince Charles in hilarious Channel 4 sitcom The Windsors, was at the height of his fame when he met Lucy, but she was oblivious.
‘I didn’t have much of a take on who he was,’ she later said. ‘When we were introduced it was, “Oh, this is Harry; he’s a comedian.” ’
They met for decorous walks on Hampstead Heath. ‘I fancied him from the outset and gradually I realised what a fantastically good and kind man he was,’ she said.
‘Harry and I have a lovely relationship. He is very generous with his words; very demonstrably loving. He tells me I’m beautiful — I never believe him, of course — and he’s very quick to say he loves me.’
A spokesman for Enfield declines to comment.
