Tipped over the edge!

Fed-up farmer takes 400 old tyres back to dumper’s home

- By James Tozer

It was a blow struck for all of us enraged by the fly-tippers blighting our countryside.

When Stuart Baldwin found 400 tyres on his land, he decided to give the dumper a taste of his own medicine.

After loading them on to a trailer, Mr Baldwin drove to the alleged culprit’s home and – with the help of eight labourers – tipped the lot on to his drive.

the cattle farmer was unapologetic yesterday and his family insisted they warned the fly-tipper before they took the matter into their own hands.

Mr Baldwin said: ‘I got sick of it so I thought I would do a bit back. Revenge is best served cold, isn’t it? Fly-tipping is horrendous – why should the farmer put up for it?’

the alleged culprit was identified after CCTV captured his vehicle registration number as 421 old tyres were dumped on Mr Baldwin’s land at Haydock, Merseyside, on tuesday. Mr Baldwin’s daughter Megan said: ‘ We found out who it was and then he promised to remove it. But he didn’t do it. We gave him the chance to make amends and then we took matters into our own hands.’

Mr Baldwin filmed himself removing the tyres and the online video received a million views in less than 24 hours.

He said on film: ‘Luckily, we found out who has forgotten them, so we are going to take them back to the person who put them here.’

the video shows the trailer-load of tyres being tipped on to a drive in nearby Ashton-in-Makerfield on thursday. In the clip, 56-year-old Mr Baldwin said: ‘Done now, given them back, thank you.’

A woman at the address where the tyres were dumped sobbed yesterday as she said: ‘It’s my expartner who’s done it.’ But a neighbour said: ‘He’s been fly-tipping so get a taste of his own medicine. It serves him right.’

the scene delighted social media users. ‘that is what the local councils should do with fly tippers,’ Neil Lowndes posted.

Naomi Shaw wrote: ‘I have lost count of the number of days I wake up and find some low life has fly-tipped on our land! Good on you for finding the culprit.’ And Suzanna Adams sarcastically commented: ‘Bet he’s been wondering where he left all those tyres as well! I’m sure he’s glad they are all back safe and sound.’

A council investigation has been launched. Fly-tippers face fines of up to £50,000 – but the maximum penalty has been imposed by the courts only twice since it was introduced six years ago.
