‘Prices locals out of their own town’

HE’s done little to endear himself to the Cornish people after buying up several topend properties in exclusive parts of the coastline.

And now, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is set to make a profit of £800,000 on the sale of one of his acquisitions, a house in the fishing village of Fowey.

Ramsay, 53, bought the Grade II listed trevail House, which was a Lloyds bank until 2015, for £1.96million in 2017.

He turned it into a luxury four-bedroom holiday home and it was listed for up to £7,000 a week on Boutique Retreats, infuriating residents who are bitterly opposed to second-home owners snapping up property.

Commenting on a Cornwall Faceviews book page at the time, one Fowey resident wrote: ‘ this is the sort of c**p which prices locals out of their own towns.’

A holidaymaker posted: ‘We want affordable accommodation and Cornwall residents on the housing waiting list would love a place to call home.’ the property, listed for £ 2.75million, is being sold by agent john Bray and Partners. they list it on their website as an ‘ iconic and distinctive building’.

they wrote: ‘With many period features retained, the interiors have been elegantly designed to enhance modern day living.

‘the layout of trevail House makes the most of the stunning harbour

Listed: The former Lloyds bank that are visible from the majority of the rooms.’ Ramsay, pictured, owns two other properties in Cornwall, including a £4.4million beachside mansion in Rock on the north Cornwall coast. He angered locals by isolating there during lockdown with his wife tana, 45, and their children Megan, 22, Holly, 20, jack, 20, Matilda, 18 and one-year- old Oscar – when rules stated that people should not be staying at their second homes. He also owns a £4million beach house in the village of trebetherick which he bought as a base while the property in Rock was being renovated. Mrs Ramsay previously opened up about her husband’s love of the county, claiming it is the only place the fiery tV chef can ‘truly relax’. ‘He has always had an obsession with the sea, and spends hours fishing or just sitting on the dunes,’ she told the times. A representative for Ramsay declined to comment.
