WHAT TO WEAR THIS WEEKEND

THE BIG DRESS

- by Camilla Ridley-Day

STYLE OF THE SUMMER

For a while it looked as though Summer 2020 wouldn’t have an ‘It’ dress. remember last year’s polka- dot frock from Zara that was so popular, it spawned its own Instagram account? With dresses consigned to the back of the wardrobe in favour of leggings, it looked like nothing would touch it . . . until H&M came up with its oversized look.

The brand’s Conscious collection, made from sustainably resourced materials, has scored a hit with its relaxed, blowsy dresses that have become this season’s defining shape.

JUST ADD A BELT

IF you’re tall, this looks floaty chic. If you’re not, it risks appearing far too voluminous. Post having babies, I’ve been trying to get away from that look, but there’s an easy solution: just add a belt. The extra wide one from Zara I’m wearing here makes a bold statement for evenings; by day, Boden has a skinny tan one (£28,

CELEBRITY FAVOURITE

you’ll have to be quick to get your hands on H&M’s collection, though, as countless celebs and social media influencers already have. The bubblegum pink option really divides opinion — but to me, this floral version is far more sophisticated, plus the colourful oversized print is a guaranteed mood-lifter.

STAYCATION DRESSING

IF PrInTS aren’t your thing, the simple navy version from John lewis ( below) has pockets, always a bonus. add a pair of flat sandals and some statement earrings and it’s just the right smart/casual feel for drinks in the garden, staycation picnics, barbecues or anything else you have an excuse to ‘dress up’ for now.
