BRUCE EYES WILSON AFTER GAYLE INJURY
NEWCASTLE will assess Dwight Gayle’s knee injury before determining their next move in the transfer market. Andy Carroll is Steve Bruce’s only available striker with the Newcastle boss braced for bad news from a scan on Gayle. The club are not commenting on the absence of club-record signing Joelinton and fellow forward Yoshinori Muto from their recent training camp in
York. BOURNEMOUTH striker Callum Wilson, 28, is under consideration but Newcastle face competition from West Ham, Fulham and Tottenham. Newcastle have also asked about taking Arsenal centre back Rob Holding on loan.
TOTTENHAM have opened talks with WOLVES over a deal for right back Matt Doherty. Tottenham remain open to selling Serge Aurier, who has interest from Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan, and want Doherty, 28, to replace him. ARSENAL have rejected an offer from Wolves of £15m for versatile player Ainsley Maitland-Niles, 22, who is valued at around £20m. Wolves have also asked about Valencia right back Thierry Correia.
MANCHESTER UNITED remain in contact with Aston Villa regarding a move for Jack Grealish but are not pursuing a deal for Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile, 19, despite reports of a £21m offer.
FULHAM are in talks over the loan signing of Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina and are close to agreeing a permanent deal for Harrison Reed. They have also made further enquiries for Nottingham Forest’s £15m-rated defender Matty Cash but have Derby County’s Jayden Bogle as another option.
