Harry’s move to US has sunk my career too, wails lookalike
IF Prince Harry’s move to the US is a loss to the nation, spare a thought for his doppelganger Henry Morley, whose lucrative sideline as an impersonator has fallen off a cliff.
The mechanic and dead ringer for the Duke of Sussex – whose real name is Henry, like the Prince’s – used to earn up to £1,500 a time for appearances at bars, nightclubs and events.
His uncanny resemblance left him quids in when Harry’s popularity soared at the time of his wedding to Meghan Markle in 2018. But since Megxit, when the couple quit for California and Harry lost his royal career, demand for Mr Morley’s services has dried up.
The 31-year-old garage owner, who has appeared with more than ten different Meghan lookalikes since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex met four years ago, said: ‘I’ve not had a single booking. A lot of businesses don’t want to use Harry and Meghan to promote themselves because they think they’ve abandoned their country.’
Now he fears his career as a clone could be over unless Harry and Meghan patch things up with the royal family or achieve fame in the US. Mr Morley, of Malton, North Yorkshire, added: ‘Whether business picks up again will depend on what Harry and Meghan do. If he’s going to stay out of the public eye, that’s my career over.’
He’s been posing as the prince for a decade – although his strong Yorkshire accent means the likeness is only skin deep.
However, as one door closes another opens, and perhaps it’s only a matter of time before he grabs a guitar and tries to pass himself off as fellow bearded red head Ed Sheeran.
