Carrie’s five-star Italian getaway
As Boris was warning us to brace for 6 months of misery, look who turned up in £600-a-night hotel!
LOOKING carefree, Carrie Symonds relaxes in the exclusive Italian resort of Lake Como in the week Boris Johnson announced the UK was in for another six months of shutdown misery.
The PM’s fiancee, 32, was photographed with their five-month-old son Wilfred during a stay at the £600-a-night Grand Hotel Tremezzo with three girlfriends.
She spent a few days on her luxury getaway, during which she was seen in a blue check midi dress and black Superga trainers as she wandered along the waterside esplanade.
The five-star hotel, where a two-day stay in a suite can cost more than £6,400, is a favourite with the superwealthy. A British holidaymaker told MailOnline: ‘ Carrie seemed very relaxed. She was smiling and laughing with her friends. It was as if she didn’t have a care in the world.
‘It’s such a beautiful hotel, I’m not surprised that she was having a good time. It was a surprise to see her on holiday, particularly as we are in the grip of a pandemic.’
As the Prime Minister was addressing the nation on Tuesday night about the new restrictions, which mean pubs and restaurants in England have to close at 10pm, his fiancee was enjoying a late night supper with her three friends. She stayed up until well after 10pm as she ate at the hotel restaurant where Mediterraneanstyle sea bass with tomatoes, capers and Taggiasca olives costs £28.
She and her friends were seated out on the terrace, where tables were spaced apart in line with social distancing. The waiters and all hotel staff wear masks, and guests have to do so in public areas except when eating and drinking.
Before dinner Miss Symonds was seen strolling along the promenade where she was able to take off her mask outside, taking in the view with Wilfred who was dressed in a red and white baby grow. The following day she and her friends embarked on a two-hour speedboat tour of the lake. The party made use of the hotel’s £ 300- an- hour launch to see the nearby castles, stately homes and waterside villages.
Wearing a red gingham dress, navy woollen cardigan and black canvas shoes, Miss Symonds and her baby were helped on and off the immaculate polished-wood vessel by its captain.
Italy was at the centre of Europe’s first coronavirus wave with most of its north, which includes Lake Como, in lockdown. But there are currently no travel restrictions from the UK, meaning you can go there on holiday without having to self-isolate at either end.
