WITH her youTube storyreading channel, sarah Ferguson has been something of a surrogate grandmother to the nation’s locked down children.
But yesterday she couldn’t contain her glee that she is indeed to become the real thing.
In an announcement on Instagram princess eugenie, 30, revealed that she and husband Jack Brooksbank are expecting their first child.
The youngest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of york, who is tenth in line to the throne, added a photograph of her holding a pair of baby slippers and the message: ‘Jack and I are so excited for early 2021’ followed by a baby emoji. It was accompanied by a new picture of her and Jack smiling together.
Fergie, 59, quickly took to social media, saying: ‘I am so excited by the news that eugenie and Jack are expecting their first child. Thrilled for them both and in my 60th year cannot wait to be a grandmother.
‘Welcoming a new baby into the york family is going to be a moment of profound joy.’
On her ‘storytime with Fergie and Friends’ channel, she read out – appropriately enough – a tale of magic called ‘Nanna Maureen’, by Casey Gillespie.
another of the first to reply to eugenie’s news was brother-in-law eduardo Mapelli Mozzi, married to her sister Beatrice, 32.
There was also a more traditional announcement by Buckingham palace which said: ‘Her royal Highness princess eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in early 2021.
‘The Duke of york and sarah, Duchess of york, Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank, The Queen and The Duke of edinburgh are delighted with the news.’
The baby will be a first grandchild for prince andrew and sarah, Duchess of york, and a ninth greatgrandchild for the Queen and Duke of edinburgh.
a spokesman for the duchess told the Mail that while she was clearly overjoyed at eugenie’s news, she also wanted to stress that she and andrew very much saw Beatrice’s stepson, Wolfie, as a grandchild too.
‘Wolfie is already a very much-loved member of their family and the duchess is very keen to stress that she sees Wolfie as their grandchild too,’ they said. The three-year-old is Mr Mapelli Mozzi’s son by a previous relationship.
eugenie and Jack, 34, met on a skiing holiday in Verbier, switzerland, and dated for more than seven years before they married at st George’s Chapel at Windsor in 2018.

funding, royal and duties, undertakes such as only attending occasional garden parties and receptions, at the request of the monarch. Her baby boy or girl will be born 11th in line to the throne. But although their mother is a princess, their father has no title, meaning they will be plain Master or Miss Brooksbank.
They will not be an HrH nor hold a title, unless the Queen decides to intervene and give Mr Brooksbank – who is european brand manager for Casamigos Tequila co-founded by George Clooney – an earldom or issue a ‘Letters patent’ amending the rules. sources seemed to think this would be unlikely.
eugenie was herself born at the exclusive portland Hospital in London where Harry and Meghan’s son archie was delivered last year, and may chose to follow in her own mother’s footsteps.
The new addition to the royal family will live with his or her parents in Ivy Cottage at Kensington palace and have the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s three children as neighbours and playmates.
