Ronnie: I feed my kids caviar for breakfast
...as Rolling Stone reveals it’s where he breakfasts on caviar with his 4-year-olds
It’s the home in which he swapped his wild rocker days for the quiet life with his young family and indulged his love of painting.
Now Ronnie Wood’s luxury six-bedroom London townhouse is up for sale – with a £3.85million price tag.
the Rolling stone, 73, has been sober for ten years after decades of drink and drug binges and is now a bigger fan of caviar than booze.
He eats the ‘black stuff’ – costing £40 to £300 for a 30g jar – with toast, onions and a boiled egg for breakfast with his four-year-old twin daughters Alice and Gracie.
Guitarist Wood describes it as ‘my treat’ which he eats ‘whenever I can’. He said: ‘the girls love it. they say “Daddy, can we have that black stuff?” I say “What black stuff?” And they say “You know – caviar!” I say “Keep your voices down otherwise everyone will want some!”’
the three times-wed grandfather-of-six, who is also a fan of knitting, was treated in rehab eight times before buying the house in fashionable Holland Park, west London, in 2011 to aid his ‘journey into sobriety’.
to encourage a positive frame of mind, the star furnished the house in bright colours.
Even his toilet roll comes in quirky hues – pink, turquoise and jet black. the home has a purple front door while the carpet in the front hall is what Wood calls ‘Coca-Cola red’.
He said: ‘to me, this house was a very important crossover chapter in my life, covering my journey into sobriety. It was here that I started on my recovery adventure.
‘First of all, it seemed like a big threat, but
then I started to see light on the other side.’ Talented artist Wood has covered every wall of the 4,100 sq ft house with his work, including paintings of Rolling Stones bandmates along with the Queen and Elvis.
Elsewhere, there are landscape paintings, horse portraits, Picasso tributes and sculptures of rhinos, which he campaigns to protect. One of his paintings has the slogan ‘When I take care of myself, I can achieve anything’. Wood told The Sunday Times: ‘That is my daily motto – the thing that I live by. I made that up when I was coming out of rehab. Affirmations are really powerful.’
He has put the home, which also has an Aga and marble surfaces in the kitchen, on the market because he now spends most of his time at his country house near Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, with his third wife, theatre producer Sally Humphreys, 42, and their twins. They also have homes in London’s Little Venice, Ireland and Barcelona.
Wood recently told how he loves to knit after his mother taught him as a child.
