Breaking news! Joe fractures foot playing with dog (and Trump sends best wishes)
Joe Biden will have to wear an orthopaedic support boot for several weeks after fracturing his foot while playing tug- of- war with his German Shepherd.
The President-elect sprained his right foot while playing with Major – one of his two dogs – and a CT scan later revealed some hairline fractures.
Among those wishing Mr Biden a swift recovery was Donald Trump who tweeted: ‘Get well soon!’ It is unclear if the Democrat will still have to wear the boot, which uses air cushions for support and is often worn by injured football players, during his inauguration on January 20.
The accident will reignite debate about Mr Biden’s age – at 78 he will be the oldest President in US history.
even though it was a minor injury he was taken to see an orthopaedic specialist in Newark, Delaware, in a motorcade with his own ambulance and several SUVs carrying Secret Service agents.
Reporters were not allowed to see Mr Biden enter the building. He was caught on a TV camera as he left looking unsteady on his feet and appeared to reach for something to help get into a waiting car.
Mr Biden has frequently dismissed questions about his age. His doctor has described him as ‘healthy, vigorous’ and ‘fit to successfully execute the duties of the presidency’.
The President- elect yesterday received his first daily intelligence briefing, containing the classified information he needs to make decisions in office.
He should have had the first briefing weeks ago but Mr Trump refused to accept the results of the US election and delayed the presidential transition.
Mr Biden has named a historically diverse cabinet, including an all-female senior press team.
His campaign communications director Kate Bedingfield will be his White House communications director, while Jen Psaki, Barack obama’s communications chief, will be his press secretary.
