Spider is the real star of Christmas

- Email: pboro@dailymail.co.uk Lorna Harrington, Farnham, Surrey.

Sidney was a spider Who lived all by himself, In a web tucked in the corner Of a dark and dusty shelf. He didn’t move about much ’Cos when he did come out The mother of the household Would only scream and shout. He didn’t mean to scare her, It made him very sad To think she didn’t like him. He wasn’t really bad. One day, quite near to Christmas Dad bought the Christmas tree. He put it in the window For all the world to see. It really was quite beautiful Thought Sidney with a sigh, With coloured lights and baubles And the shining star on high. Then something awful happened, The star fell off the top, It broke in little pieces For it was quite a drop. They couldn’t buy another star,

The shops had all sold out. ‘Never mind,’ said mother. ‘We’ll just have to do without.’ The children were a bit upset, It made our Sidney sad, A tree without a Christmas star, It really was too bad. That night, with everyone asleep,

Sidney climbed the tree. If the children want a star, He thought, it’s up to me. He spun a web the like of which Had ne’er been spun before. He worked so hard all through the night Till he could do no more. Next morning when the children woke They clapped their hands with glee At the shimmering Christmas star On the top branch of the tree. Now Mum and Dad knew who it was Who made the star that night, To the children, it was magic, Which filled them with delight. It was the best star ever, They all said with a cheer, And Sidney made a promise To make the star next year.
