FIRST shown over Christmas 2018 2018, ITV’s drama is an uplifting treat that stars Poppy Lee Friar and Will Tudor (pictured) as the great ice dancing duo. The story begins with them as children, in 1968, and deftly traces their rise and their setbacks across one feature-length instalment.

CLASSIC DRAMA Mother Love, 9pm, BBC4

MESMERISIN­G drama adapted by Andrew Davies from Roger Longrigg’s novel, first shown in 1989. Its main concern is Helena (a Bafta-winning Diana Rigg) and her obsessive love for her son (James Wilby) and hatred of his father (David McCallum). A Face To Face interview with Rigg, who died in September follows at 10.45pm, and it concludes tomorrow.

THE HILLS ARE ALIVE! The Sound Of Music — Live!, 9pm, Sky Arts

AMERICAN country star Carrie Underwood stars as Maria von Trapp, with Stephen Moyer as her Captain, in this stage version of the musical; it has wonderful singing and dancing, plus adequate acting. There’s more musical action on Sky Arts tomorrow with Jesus Christ Superstar at the same time.

WAR DOCUMENTAR­Y Baghdad Diary, 9pm, Sky History

THIS startling new documentar­y explores the Iraq War and its aftermath from two perspectiv­es: from Baghdad’s Barakat Jassem, who went to work for the Coalition Provisiona­l Authority; and from Craig White, a U.S. TV cameraman embedded with the U.S. Army.

HIT FILM COMEDY Bridesmaid­s, 9pm, ITV2

KRISTEN WIIG both writes and stars in this comedy, which embraces the romcom’s stock in trade — relationsh­ips, weddings — while proving that there is another way to make a comedy that will appeal to female audiences. It’s flat-out gross in places, but it also feels wild, fresh and original.

STAND-UP SET London Hughes, Netflix

BRITISH comedian London Hughes — who started her TV career presenting daytime shows on adult TV station Babestatio­n before moving to CBBC! — has scored a Netflix special and uses it to ask why, despite her success, she and so many women like her are single.
