I inwardly groaned when she lectured me on unhealthy ketchup

- Interviews: SAMANTHA BRICK

DATING PAST?

I’ve dated but not had a girlfriend for three years. The longest relationship I’ve had lasted two years, but we drifted apart. I can be quite a perfectionist and know the type of person I’m looking for.

PRE-DATE NERVES?

I do get nervous, but that doesn’t bother me because nerves show you are a healthy and well-adjusted person who cares. I prepared my outfit in advance and got my favourite white top specially drycleaned at my hotel.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS?

elIana is passionate, outgoing and possibly a little bit fiery. She is lovely, but she isn’t my type.

I’ve been in the Canaries since november, as I’m hoping to relocate here. If Covid has taught me anything about dating, it is not to limit my options, so I’m open to a long-distance relationship, too.

EASY TO TALK TO?

I’m SenSITIve and initially I felt uncomfortable. eliana asked plenty of questions and at one point I did joke that this wasn’t a job interview. She seems confident, if a little excited. Halfway through the date I felt comfortable enough to open up to her.

EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?

We Had a couple of audio issues at the beginning, not helped by my waiter turning up just as we had started to chat. I had a mixed salad with eggs. When I told eliana I was putting ketchup on it, she lectured me about the salt and sugar in the sauce. I inwardly groaned.

DID SPARKS FLY?

elIana was complimentary. There wasn’t any flirting on my part, but we did have a fun conversation.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET IN PERSON ?

no. our date finished when I arrived back at my hotel after our walk along the beach together. While I’d meet her as friend, friendships are awkward if one person fancies the other and the feeling isn’t mutual. eliana gave me her number, but I haven’t used it.

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE THOUGHT OF YOU?

elIana was talking about when we could meet up in the uK, so I think she liked me. She is an intelligent, beautiful woman and, while she isn’t the one for me, she will make the right man happy. WOULD YOUR FRIENDS LIKE HER? YeS, she has the same musical tastes as my friends.
