Low-calorie Mars bars – smaller size, same price!

- Daily Mail Reporter

MARS has launched a range of ‘lower- calorie’ chocolate bars that are up to 50 per cent smaller than its standardsized ones – but without reducing the prices.

The classic Mars bar, along with Twix and Snickers, have been reinvented as snacks containing 100 calories or less.

But the confectionery giant has simply shrunk the size of its classic treats – with the new mini collections selling for the same price as original multi-packs.

For example, a ten- pack of slimmed- down 21g Mars bar is listed by Tesco at £2 while nine of its more indulgent 33.8g bars are also £2, leaving shoppers with 31 per cent less chocolate for the same price. It is a similar story for its other sig

The full recommended retail price for the new lower- calorie multi-packs is £2.79.

When sold individually, the new reduced portion size bars have a RRP of 40p.

But shoppers can snap up an original 51g Mars bar – twice the size of the new mini version – for a UK average price of just 74p.

The move will reignite the row over so- called ‘shrinkflation’ – cutting the size of a product but not altering the cost.

Last week Ferrero announced it was slashing the size of Nutella jars without reducing the price.

Mars Wrigley claimed the higher price per gram for the smaller bars ‘is attributable to increased manufacturing and supply costs’.
