Police chief ’s girl caught at student bash

- By Nick Craven and Chris Brooke

AS a senior police officer, Andy Slattery has led his force’s efforts to enforce Covid lockdown rules.

So news that his undergraduate daughter had been flouting restrictions at a boozy party would not have gone down well with the Assistant Chief Constable of Cumbria Police.

Privately educated Amy Slattery, 1 , was caught on camera at the Saturday night party at Leeds Beckett University where no masks or social distancing were evident.

The footage was posted from the event – believed to have taken place in a hall of residence – on social media at 3am on Sunday.

The day after, the university tweeted on its official account: ‘Unfortunately a small number of students have breached the regulations by organising or attending parties/gatherings in halls, putting the safety and welfare of other residents and staff at risk.’

A source who knows the family said: ‘Of course, it’s not just Amy, but given who her father is, it’s outrageous that she has ignored all the rules. Her dad is never off the local TV and radio, ramming home the message that we must all adhere to the laws on wearing masks and keeping a safe distance. This won’t go down well at all.’

Mr Slattery is chairman of Cumbria’s multi-agency Covid-1 Strategic Co-ordination Group and appears frequently on local media giving advice on anti-Covid laws. Cumbria Deputy Chief Constable Mark Webster said the video was ‘a matter for the local force’. He added: ‘It is incumbent on all to comply with the rules.’

A Leeds Beckett University spokesman said students who break Covid rules with parties in halls could be fined up to £500.
