Theresa is right to take Boris to task
THERESA MAY’S evaluation of the Prime Minister and his ministerial colleagues (Mail) was open and honest. I was particularly impressed by her view that the credibility of our country was impacted by a desire to over-ride elements of the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement, which in essence is not abiding by internationally accepted agreements. I support her view that we are not owed a prominent place on the world stage, yet Boris Johnson naively assumes we do hold such a position. I also welcome Mrs May’s comments about absolutism in the Government. Seasoned professionals in the House of Commons surely must agree with her criticism of the view: ‘If you are not 100 per cent for me then you must be 100 per cent against me.’ What a ridiculous and immature philosophy. The old adage of be careful what you wish for certainly applies to the Conservative party members who voted for Boris Johnson as leader. Perhaps they might want to reconsider what being a Conservative actually means and what are the party’s values. With the inauguration of Joe Biden as President, it’s all change in the U.S., where populism sadly managed to get a foothold over the past four years.
COLIN KNIGHT, Loughborough, Leics. NOT content to tie with Gordon Brown as the worst prime minister in recent times, Theresa May is seeking to oust Edward Heath from the top spot of curmudgeonly, bitter loser. Boris Johnson has at least shown this country is prepared to stand up for itself. Criticism of him is somewhat rich from someone who made us a laughing stock with the EU. Once the spend on foreign aid is properly accounted for, this country may engender some thanks and respect for the privilege.
R. CHATTERTON, Caythorpe, Lincs. THERESA, you had your opportunity. You did your best. Unfortunately, you didn’t get the backing of your party, Parliament or the electorate. You couldn’t get a reasonable deal with Europe. Boris has had more success in all these vital areas despite his faults, so stop being a bad loser like Donald Trump and retire gracefully.
