Easter miracle!

Teen ‘certified dead’ after crash comes back to life

- By Gregory Kirby

A Teenager who was ‘certified dead’ after being hit by a van started breathing just before his life support machine was to be switched off.

Lewis roberts, 18, suffered catastrophic head injuries after the collision in his hometown of Leek, Staffordshire.

He was flown to royal Stoke University Hospital for surgery but, four days later, his family were told to say their final goodbyes.

His family said doctors had already notified the coroner of the teenager’s death and they had agreed to donate his organs.

But, hours before the procedure to remove them, Lewis began to breathe again on his own.

His sister Jade roberts, 28, captured the ‘miracle’ on video as she sat at her brother’s bedside.

While filming the machine monitoring his breathing, she said: ‘Are you ready Lew? One, two, three, breathe.’ A brown line to indicate the breath appeared on the device, and she cried out in surprise, adding: ‘Have a break, clever boy.’

After further encouragement failed, Miss roberts said: ‘One, two, three, and a big breath’. As the monitor flashed brown again, she added: ‘I’m telling you Lew, you’re amazing, you are amazing.’

She later shared her reaction on Facebook: ‘the hospital, family etc cannot even believe the miracle. they said they’ve never ever witnessed this and Lewis is the second person in the whole wide world to do this.

‘Mega, mega mixed emotions. Just absolutely unbelievable. Please keep praying. We are obviously so, so overwhelmed after hearing we lost our boy.’

A relative said that if his family had not agreed to donate his organs, his life support machine might have been switched off earlier. Since the miracle, Lewis has managed to breathe without using a ventilator for an entire day.

He has also started reacting to pain tests, moving his limbs and head from side to side, blinking and moving his mouth.

But, on Sunday, he needed to use the ventilator again due to a possible chest infection, which family say doctors are looking into.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said inquiries into the collision are still ongoing.
