Teacher carried out armed raid to pay for prostitute

- By Liz Hull

A TEACHER was jailed yesterday for carrying out an armed burglary to pay for a prostitute.

Adam Morrison, 27, had just had sex with an escort at his £300,000 apartment but decided to break into a neighbouring flat after she apparently demanded more money.

He was caught when his terrified neighbour spotted him in her hallway and called for her boyfriend. The man overpowered and restrained Morrison, who was armed with a chisel, until police arrived. Morrison was found with the neighbour’s lingerie in his pockets having rifled through her spare room, Manchester Crown Court heard.

He insisted he had been looking for cash and ‘forgot’ about taking the underwear.

The computer science teacher, who lived in the apartment block in Didsbury, Manchester, with his accountant brother, admitted aggravated burglary.

Judge Alan Conrad QC, sentencing him to six years in prison, said: ‘I accept you did not intend to cause sexual or physical harm but there was a sexual aspect to your offending because you stole a woman’s underwear.’ The court heard the offence took place on July 18 last year after Morrison booked the prostitute while his brother was away. He claimed he had been drinking that day and had taken drugs.

Recruitment consultants Grace Coyne and Sam Wright were in bed when Miss Coyne was woken up by a noise shortly before midnight and saw a figure in her hallperate way. Richard Orme, prosecuting, said: ‘Miss Coyne ran back into the bedroom and screamed to her boyfriend that there was someone in the flat. Sam Wright immediately jumped out of bed and ran into the hallway and punched him to the head, causing the defendant to fall to the floor.’

Mr Wright suffered a cut to his arm as he tried to wrestle the chisel from Morrison.

Police found a red bra and pairs of knickers in Morrison’s pockets. The court heard he gained entry through a window. Mr Orme said Morrison ‘maintained that he was des

for cash after having just had sex with an escort who was demanding more money.’ He added: ‘ Whilst accepting that Miss Coyne’s underwear had been found in his pockets, he conveniently claimed to have no recollection of taking it.’

Miss Coyne told police she had been left ‘traumatised’ by the break-in. Nicola Gatto, defending Morrison, said: ‘He is remorseful and feels shame.’ Morrison was also banned from contacting Miss Coyne indefinitely under the terms of a restraining order.
