- By Kamal Sultan

AN elderly woman was killed yesterday after she was attacked by two escaped dogs in her garden.

The woman, in her 80s, suffered serious injuries after the ‘dangerously out of control’ hounds bit her.

An air ambulance landed near her house in Rowley Regis, West Midlands, but the pensioner was confirmed dead at the scene.

The two dogs did not belong to her but they managed to get into her garden, confirmed West Midlands Police.

A 43-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of being the person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control. Police said that he remained in custody for questioning.

The animals have been seized and will be examined to determine what breed they are. Forensic officers, vets and armed police were at her home yesterday and a dog was seen being carried from a house. There was also reportedly a vet carrying a tranquilliser gun. In a

statement, the force said: ‘We were alerted to an elderly woman being found with serious injuries in a rear garden at around 3.20pm.

‘She was sadly confirmed dead at the scene soon afterwards.

‘It’s understood two dogs – which did not belong to the woman who was aged in her 80s – had managed to get into her garden and she was attacked.’

The statement added: ‘She sustained dog bite injuries although a post mortem will take place in due course to establish the cause of death. A police presence will remain in place in the area as we work to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

‘Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman.’
