Kane should be happy at Spurs, says Mourinho

- By DANIEL MATTHEWS

JOSE MOURINHO claims Harry Kane should be happy with how life is panning out at Tottenham and insists he has no need to speak to his star man about his future. The England captain is being linked with a move away from the club this summer as he looks to win a first major trophy. The 27-year-old recently admitted he will decide his next step in the coming months but Mourinho says Kane has not mentioned a possible departure — and believes the forward should be excited by his current prospects. ‘I’ve nothing to speak with him about,’ said Mourinho. ‘Three years of his contract remain, I have nothing to speak with him about. ‘Unless he wants to speak with me about it and until now he has never approached me in relation to anything. ‘I think he’s living a good period — he’s doing well for club and country and ahead of him until the end of the season he has nice challenges: the (Carabao Cup) final to play, the Premier League to fight for every point, then a Euros with the possibility to play a final at Wembley. I think he has to be happy with the moment he’s living.’ Mourinho refused to be drawn on the speculation surrounding Kane’s future and insisted he was unfazed by the striker’s comments. ‘I cannot play that game of what people say or don’t say,’ he said. ‘I want Harry to be with us what he has been. I want Harry to repeat against Newcastle the same performance he had against Aston Villa (a 2-0 win), the same commitment, desire, team spirit and leadership.’ Ahead of tomorrow’s trip to struggling Newcastle, Spurs are three points outside the top four. Their hopes of reaching the Champions League via the Europa League ended with a humiliating defeat by Dinamo Zagreb last month. Mourinho admitted yesterday that fewer games — and less need to rotate — could deepen those problems. Captain Hugo Lloris is another senior player linked with a move this summer but Mourinho said: ‘We have, in my opinion, the best goalkeeper in England and the best English goalkeeper (Joe Hart). So I am so happy with that that I don’t think about what can happen. Hugo has a contract, Joe has a contract. I’m so happy with both.’
