IHEANACHO’S NEW DEAL

- By TOM COLLOMOSSE

KELECHI IHEANACHO is expected to sign a new contract with Leicester City this summer as a reward for his stunning recent form. The Nigerian (below) takes on former club Manchester City in the Premier League today after scoring seven goals in his last four games. Iheanacho, who earns about £60,000 a week, has one year left on his contract at the end of the campaign and there is confidence on both sides that he will accept fresh terms. Boss Brendan Rodgers said: ‘He is someone who we would want to have.

You aim to have a squad which is developing and getting better, and he can contribute to that.

‘I am pretty sure there will be something organised between him and his representatives.’

Iheanacho has mostly been Jamie Vardy’s deputy during his time at Leicester but they have flourished recently as a partnership up front.

James Maddison is fit again after missing the last six games with hip trouble and is due to play some part today but it is very difficult to see Iheanacho being left out against City, who sold him for £25million four years ago.

Rodgers added: ‘ Kelechi has kept a great attitude and is a really committed player, and he is very resilient.

‘ You will have seen moments during this season like the match away at Crystal Palace where he didn’t have his best game and it looked as if his confidence was down.

‘Our job as managers and coaches is to make him feel important, because he is.

‘At the age of 24 he is developing and showing a really high level and the aim is to continue that.’
