How can we stop litterbugs trashing Britain?

-

I AGREE with Jan Moir that litter louts are the trash of our society (Mail). Why haven’t they been taught to clear up their rubbish? I’ve travelled to many countries and Britain is the filthiest. I admire the many people who are prepared to clean up the mess left by others. But it’s the ones who cause the problem who need to be brought to realise the damage they are doing to the environment.

J. KARTRIEBER, Cheam, surrey. I SHARE Jan Moir’s fury at the people responsible for marring our parks and countryside with their litter. There seems to be no consideration about the effect their behaviour has on the environment.

It is hardly a difficult task to make a beeline for the nearest bin. I’m at a loss to comprehend the flagrant lack of respect of these litter louts. Don’t they have a conscience?

M. SMITH, Chatham, Kent. THE people of Nottingham must be ashamed of those who desecrated their lovely park with so much litter. If these litterbugs feel they have the right to leave their rubbish for others to clear up, what must their homes look like? We need to get tough on these selfish people: double the fines for littering, and make offenders attend an awareness course or take part in a community clear-up.

TONY WEBB, st Mellion, Cornwall.

I’M FED up with being blamed for climate change problems by youngsters. It was my generation who were brought up to recycle and take our rubbish home. I live near a beach and have confronted youngsters dumping bottles, cans and food packaging. These spoilt, entitled brats don’t think the rules apply to them and that someone else will pick up their rubbish. Aren’t their parents interested in bringing them up properly?

D. ALLEN, Bognor Regis, W. sussex. HOW many of the people leaving all their trash behind after enjoying themselves in parks and beauty spots bang on about climate change and the desecration of the planet?

PAUL MORLEY, Skipton, N. Yorks.
