Line of Duty star’s rage at Met over son kidnap case

- By George Odling Crime Reporter

A LINE of Duty star has criticised the police for failing to investigate after three men tried to kidnap her 11-yearold son.

Sherise Blackman, who played Ruby Jones in the BBC hit, said two men and a driver had tried to abduct the boy as he came home from school on Friday. He was chased into a nearby basketball court in Beckenham, south- east London, where he was rescued by two teenagers.

The 39-year-old, who has also appeared in EastEnders, said she was left ‘very dissatisfied’ with Scotland Yard, who closed the investigation after identifying no suspects.

However, last night the Met acknowledged that its response had not been ‘sufficient’ given the ‘extremely worrying’ nature of the situation and made an appeal for further information.

Mrs Blackman, pictured, said her son was left ‘shaken up’ after the incident, which occurred when the masked driver of a black car pulled up alongside him and offered him a lift home.

When her son began to run away, two men wearing masks and hoods chased after him into a recreation ground where he asked two teenagers for help.

The potential kidnappers claimed that Mrs Blackman’s son was with them. But when he said this wasn’t true the basketball players blocked the entrance and told him to run home.

However, Mrs Blackman said that when she reported the incident she felt as though officers were trying to ‘fob it off’.

She told the Evening Standard: ‘They were asking questions like “have you got any issues with other boys” and “do you have beef with other kids”... My son is a very smart little boy – he sensed danger.’
