Caprice and Nancy join big clean-up
MODELS Caprice and Nancy Sorrell are among a host of famous faces who have been out litter-picking in support of this year’s Great British Spring Clean.
The campaign, backed by the Daily Mail and organised by Keep Britain Tidy, has so far received pledges to rid more than half a million miles of rubbish in towns, the countryside and along the coast.
Caprice Bourret, who now has her own home furnishings brand, has become something of a community champion, taking litterers to task in her neighbourhood in Notting Hill, west London.
The 49- year- old said: ‘ A few months ago I walked out of my front door and saw this guy in a car throw a massive McDonald’s bag out of the window. I was taken aback by that. He had to slow for a bus and so I asked him: “Mate, what are you doing? You are littering and it is terrible for the environment”.
‘He looked at me like he was bewildered. I thought it was so sad, that this was what we have come to.’ The California-born mother of two boys Jax and Jett, six, added: ‘I am 100 per cent behind the [Spring Clean] campaign.’
Miss Sorrell, who is also an actress and TV personality, hailed the Spring Clean, saying: ‘ Campaigns like this are good as a reminder to everyone that as a nation we should all pull together.
‘I am feeling great today, knowing that I am helping the community by picking up litter.’
The 46-year-old said she despairs of the rubbish she sometimes sees while on walks in the Kent countryside with husband, comedian Vic Reeves, and their twin teenage girls Lizzie and Nell. ‘Kent is a very beautiful place but there are times when I am astounded,’ she said.
Mail columnist Dame Jenni Murray went litter-picking while walking her dogs near her home in Hampstead Garden Suburb, north-west London. Dame Jenni, 70, said: ‘I am all for the campaign. I come from the Keep Britain Tidy generation.’
Prime Suspect writer Lynda La Plante, 78, regularly scours Richmond Park near her home in Kingston, south-west London. ‘It is a terrific thing that the Mail is doing,’ she added. ‘The more people you can get litter-picking, the better.’
