I DID apologise — but she was looking at her phone

CONNOR, 27 VITAL STATISTICS SINGLE for 18 months. CURRENT ROLE

ACROBAT and performer.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET

SOMEONE with energy, love and passion. I’m turned off by women who aren’t active, have zero energy and are draining.

DATING PAST?

I’ve had three serious relationships over the past decade. I met my first girlfriend when I was 18. she was a cheerleader and we dated for 18 months. My second was an Instagram influencer. she was famous on social media and it got too much for me. My last girlfriend was my first proper love, but we drifted apart as she had some jealousy issues. I didn’t date in 2020 as I’m a tactile and affectionate person, which doesn’t work with social distancing.

PRE-DATE NERVES?

I love meeting new people, but I was nervous. I went into this with an open mind as appearances aren’t the be-all and end-all. I’ve been overweight and bullied, but today I’ve got a six-pack. I like to judge someone’s energy. even if she’s quiet, I’ll be able to ‘feel’ if we’re going to get on or not.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS?

Honestly, I wasn’t initially attracted to tanya, but I wanted to give the date a go. when I first saw her she was sitting outside in a big coat — the weather was awful. I was wearing a t-shirt with black jeans, blue timberland boots and a denim jacket.

EASY TO TALK TO?

I was running late, so when I got to our table tanya wasn’t looking up to greet me, but was staring at her phone. I did apologise for being late; the traffic was horrendous. I must have looked flustered.

after we’d ordered sushi and sashimi, we talked about our hobbies and interests. tanya creates video games and loves playing them in her spare time. she went through all the games she loves and what her job involves.

while I can appreciate gaming, it doesn’t interest me. she did ask me about my acrobatics work, but the conversation was stop-start.

EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?

no, but my uber taxi was late. I’m normally on time and I hate it when people aren’t punctual. yet, ironically, I turned up half-anhour late.

DID SPARKS FLY?

to be completely honest, there was no chemistry.

WILL YOU MEET UP AGAIN ?

I Don’t think so.

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE THOUGHT OF YOU?

no IDea, maybe someone who is always late.

WOULD YOUR FRIENDS LIKE HER?

Probably not. we’re different people. If I don’t like someone, my friends tend to follow my lead. Interviews: SAMANTHA BRICK . ORIGINAL COPY . ORIGINAL COPY . ORIGINAL COPY ORIGINAL COPY
