Gabby: Why men love my menopause show

It helps them ‘appreciate what partners go through’

- By Dominique Hines

GABBY Logan has revealed she receives fan mail from men who praise her for discussing the menopause on her hit podcast.

The TV presenter’s audience includes middle-aged men who were not aware that their menopausal partners were struggling with the biological change until they listened to The Mid Point.

‘Men have raised the point about [menopause] being such an interesting time in their relationships and their careers,’ Miss Logan, 48, pictured, told Health And Wellbeing magazine.

‘It’s made people have conversations with their partners they wouldn’t have normally had and say stuff to me such as, “It’s opened my eyes; I really didn’t know she was going through all that”.’

The sports broadcaster was diagnosed as perimenopausal last year after a blood test found her hormone levels had dropped dramatically. The perimenopause refers to the time during which a woman’s body starts transitioning to menopause and her ovaries gradually stop working.

Miss Logan added: ‘[The podcast] is such a great project to do and I want to be doing it for as long as I can. I get such lovely feedback from people.’ The mother-of-two discusses all things mid-life, including relationship issues, physical changes associated with ageing and the menopause.

■ Nearly one million women retire early because of menopausal symptoms, a Government adviser said yesterday amid growing fears of a pension crisis. Andy Briggs, the Government’s business champion for older workers, told The Mail on Sunday: ‘Nearly four million women in the UK are aged between 45 and 55 and are in employment. And women aged over 50 are the fastest-growing segment of the workforce. Yet one in five women end up leaving the workplace as a result of some of the symptoms of menopause.

one younger to return to work – has a huge impact on your retirement income.’

Mr Briggs, who runs the UK’s largest retirement company, Phoenix, recommends more clinical support for women with menopausal symptoms and more appropriate sick leave policies.
