An aching back need not be the bane of your life

-

BACK pain can literally be the bane of your life. It’s a problem that affects an estimated one in six adults in the UK. The good news is that acute (short-term) back pain may last for a few days or weeks, often resolving on its own. If the pain persists for 12 weeks or longer, however, it falls into the category of chronic back pain. About 20 per cent of people affected by acute lower back pain develop chronic symptoms persisting for at least a year. If you are experiencing discomfort in bed or with an ordinary chair, you might benefit immensely from a customised chair, especially if you spend a lot of time sitting. By supporting the body in the reclined position, the right chair can reduce the severity of neck and back pain, muscle stiffness (using a built-in massage function) and several common complaints such as acid reflux and circulatory problems, to name a few. And a riser chair that tips forward will help anyone with limited upper body strength who may struggle to get themselves in and out of an ordinary chair. Similarly, an adjustable bed can help alleviate medical conditions such as back pain and sleep apnoea, and help you achieve a more restful night’s sleep. The mattress can be moved at the touch of a button to a position that’s more comfortable for sleeping or resting. And it’s easy to raise your legs and feet, too. You can experiment with different positions until you find one that lessens your pain. But one size does not fit all. So make sure you partner with a firm such as The Mobility Furniture Company which knows its product, understands your health issues, and is willing to work with you to find the best solution.
